Brighton Harbour Hotel is one of those venues I always feel good about walking into. It's right on the seafront promenade, it's got that lovely Victorian bones-meets-contemporary-interiors thing going on, and - crucially - the ceremony and dinner room is properly light and airy.
A lot of hotel wedding rooms are beautiful on paper and a bit of a photography challenge in practice - dark walls, low ceilings, lighting that looked great in the brochure and behaves terribly on the day. Brighton Harbour Hotel is not that. The ceremony and dining space has big windows, white walls, and light that actually works with you rather than against you. I've shot here a few times and it's consistently one of the more relaxed venues to work in from a photography perspective.
The Victorian architecture gives the exterior and some of the common areas real character - original features, period details, the kind of stuff that makes portraits look effortlessly interesting. And then there's the seafront, which is literally outside the door. The beach, the Palace Pier, the promenade. All of it.
Couples who choose Brighton Harbour Hotel tend to be people who love Brighton - really love it, not just 'we thought a seaside wedding would be nice'. They want the city in their wedding photos. They want the pebbles and the pier and the wide open sky.
What the photography looks like here
The portrait options here are some of the best of any venue I shoot at. We can go classic seafront - big sky, the pier in the distance, waves behind you - or duck into The Lanes which are about five minutes' walk away for something more colourful and characterful. Or both!
Practical stuff
The hotel has accommodation on site for the couple and guests, which is a genuinely useful thing - no one has to worry about taxis at the end of the night. The Marine Room can be partitioned to suit different guest numbers, so it works well whether you're planning something intimate or a bit bigger.
